Secondary School Overview

Saanich International Students have three Secondary Schools to choose from – Parkland, Stelly's or Claremont.

Each school enrolls grades 9-12 students from their local neighborhoods, or 'catchment areas' all within convenient walking or driving distance to school.

As (B.C.) public schools, Parkland, Stelly's and Claremont must provide the same Compulsory Curriculum and only differ in some Elective areas, Programs of Choice and Extra-curricular Activities.

All three schools boast attractive buildings, modern facilities and spacious playing fields and celebrate strong traditions in Academics, Athletics, Performing Arts, Technology and Student Engagement, illustrating the District motto, “Saanich Schools, Great Places to Learn and Safe Places to Be!”

For more detailed descriptions of each school, see the document, “Saanich Secondary Schools -Similarities and Differences” and also check out the School Websites and Video Tours through the links on this page

Parkland Secondary School is a candidate school* for the Diploma Programme. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that Parkland Secondary School believes is important for our students. For further information about the IB and its programmes, visit http://www.ibo.org

*Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted.

Parkland International Students love the “Family Atmosphere” and “School Spirit” their school is famous for.

Middle Schools

Saanich is home to three middle schools.

Middle schools in BC typically accept students from grades 6, 7 and 8 who are 12-14 years of age.

Royal Oak is an inclusive and vibrant community of learners where each member of the
school community is engaged both socially and intellectually. School community members
demonstrate a sense of ownership and strive to maintain a safe and caring culture where
everyone has the opportunity to reach their potential as a learner and as a person.

At North Saanich Middle School we are committed to supporting every student as each
strives to reach his/her potential and by providing every student with the opportunity to learn
in a caring and respectful middle school environment.

Bayside Middle School is a beautifully and uniquely designed school in the heart of
Brentwood Bay. We house grades 6, 7 and 8. We are very fortunate to have such an
amazing building in a huge natural setting. The students benefit from being able to move
around the property for learning and for fun. Our student population is diverse with just over
a third of the students studying in the French Immersion program and about a tenth of the
students having SENCOTEN as their choice of a second language course. We make it a
priority to have our approximately 540 students learn about the various cultures both within
the building and the surrounding community.
